Ruth J. Pringnitz, 80, of the town of Belle Plaine, Shawano County, passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning, June 15, 2017, at the St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.

Ruth was born on Feb. 9, 1937, in Underhill as the daughter of the late Gottfried and Olga (Moser) Tonn. She graduated from Clintonville High School with the Class of 1955 and was united in marriage to Donald “Don” Pringnitz on Oct. 15, 1955, at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville.

The couple resided in Wausau for roughly 10 years prior to moving back to Clintonville in 1965. In 1969, Ruth and Don decided to provide foster care at their home, along with raising their sons, Mark and Mike. Over the years, the couple provided a loving temporary home for 41 children. Although they resided in town, the couple enjoyed spending time with their extended family at their lake cottage on Long Lake in the town of Belle Plaine. In 1989, the couple moved to the lake permanently where they lived since.

Ruth worked as a secretary for Wisconsin Bowhunters, a paralegal for Clintonville Public Schools and volunteered at Lincoln Elementary School in Shawano for a number of years. Ruth loved to travel with her family and over the years saw most of the continental United States. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, camping and talking to her pet fish. Ruth also enjoyed reading, especially her latest edition of Our Wisconsin. She looked forward to playing bridge with her card partner, Carol Metzger, and spending time with friends.

Kenneth J. Repinski

Kenneth “Ken” James Repinski, 57, of Gresham, passed away unexpectedly on June 13, 2017.

Ken was born in Stevens Point on Feb. 1, 1960, to James Repinski and Marjorie Repinski. He lived in the Plover area until high school when his family moved to Eau Claire. Ken graduated from Memorial High School in June 1978. Ken was married to Sheree Gartzke on June 30, 1984, in Shawano at United Methodist Church. They were married for 23 years and have remained friends.

Our dad:

While our dad was growing up he enjoyed summers camping with his three brothers, one sister and his mom and dad. During his childhood he loved going swimming, playing basketball and spending countless hours at the county parks. In high school, our dad was a talented trumpet player. He could play any Maynard Ferguson song by ear without even reading the sheet music. On one particular pep rally, our dad played the theme song from “Rocky” with the entire high school in amazement. Our dad still played his silver trumpet every now and then. After graduating high school, our dad became a restaurant manager for Bridgemans. He worked for the restaurant for many years in Wisconsin and Minnesota. He even told us that Prince came into the Minnesota establishment and the waitresses would fight over who could wait on him. After Bridgemans, our dad decided to get into the trucking industry. He became employed as an over-the-road semitruck driver traveling across the United States. Within the past year, our dad became an owner-operator with V&S Midwest Carriers of Kaukauna. Our dad often told us he really found his trucking home with V&S. He loved traveling the open road and was an exceptional operator without having an accident in his 26-year career. While on the open road, our dad had his travel buddy, his dog, Jake, alongside him. Jake was more than just a dog to my dad and us; he was a part of our family, too.

Our dad loved taking us boating on hot summer weekends on Shawano Lake. He liked to water ski, wakeboard and kneeboard. Our most favorite memories were made on Shawano Lake with our dad whether it was tubing behind the Sea Ray or spending time at the sandbar. He also loved to fish off the boat and on the ice even if his line became tangled here and there. Our dad enjoyed going camping as a family to Lake Wissota every year. Our dad had a passion for motorcycles and loved to ride his two-tone dark red Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited Cycle. He was always ordering new chrome and customizing his cycle to his standards. He even had a custom-built carrier for his trailer so Jake could ride along. While on the open road our dad loved listening to his favorite bands, which included ACDC, Boston, Chicago, Foreigner, Kansas, Metallica and REO Speedwagon. When he was home he enjoyed going to live concerts, especially Big Mouth and The Power Tool Horns. Our dad enjoyed playing pool against his brothers till the wee hours of the morning and enjoyed spending weekends with them when he could. He also was a talented chef and master of the grill. His favorites were BBQ chicken over his charcoal grill and ribeye steaks grilled to a perfect medium-rare.

Our dad could walk into a room and talk to anyone with the ability to make you feel like you were his number one priority. He could talk for hours on end with anyone, but at the same time he was the best listener as well. He was a real people person and could find the good in anyone. One of his favorite pastimes was reading. He had a zest for reading the newest biographies and untold stories. While we were growing up, our dad could fix anything that went “wrong” around the house. He was a real do-it-yourself guy and could fix anything from the water heater to brakes on the car. Our dad was truly the best dad imaginable, and we have been blessed to be his children. He was always a helping hand, listening ear and guiding light.

Ken is survived by his children, Katie (Adam) Carroll, of Gresham, and Kyle Repinski, of Shawano. He is further survived by his parents, James (Rosanne) Repinski, of Granton, and Marjorie Repinski, of Eau Claire; sister, Diane Pichler, of Eau Claire; brothers, Al Repinski, of Rock Falls, Dale Repinski, of Eau Claire, and Tom (Julie) Repinski, of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and dear friends.

Ken was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Doreen Soik, and Clarence and Evelyn Repinski.

We love you, Dad. We’re going to miss you. We hope Jake keeps you company on your ride to heaven. Love you always, Katie & Kyle

Memorial services for Ken will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Swedberg Funeral Home at 518 W. Fifth St. in Shawano with the Rev. Travis Kleinschmidt officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. Jakobi Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 3 p.m. until the time of the services.

The former Viola Mae Fritz was born at home on May 26, 1924, in the town of Fairbanks, Shawano County, to William and Clara (Schroeder) Fritz. She was united in marriage on Oct. 8, 1949, to Arthur H. Britzke at Zion Lutheran Church, Tigerton. For almost 25 years, the couple dairy farmed in the town of Grant (just west of Caroline) until they sold the farm to their son in 1974. While farming, Viola also worked for some time at Marion Plywood as well. After the couple left the farm, they settled in Shawano. She is a former member of Zion Lutheran Church, Caroline, and a current member of Zion Lutheran Church, Shawano. The couple loved to go to polka dances and play cards, especially smear and sheepshead.

Viola was a partner in every aspect of their marriage. She helped with field work, milked cows and still found time to be a talented seamstress (making clothing for herself and her daughter). They raised three children to believe that hard work together as a family makes you strong. Viola liked crocheting and made all sorts of doilies until her eyesight robbed her of doing small work. She loved to cook, especially homemade potato pancakes for her family. Her other interests included gardening, canning, and working in her flower gardens. She was famous for her special homemade chocolate cake that the family always looked forward to when they would visit her and for special occasions. Viola also enjoyed going for drives in the fall to see all the autumn colors.

Viola will be remembered for putting God first and had a deep faith. She was never able to say “no” to anyone and was always willing to help out whenever needed. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She often shared her beautiful smile and contagious laugh with others.

Jerry Olsen

Jerry Olsen, also known as “Jerry from the Bamboo,” passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 19, 2017, surrounded by his children and loving wife, Marty.

Jerry had an enigmatic, energetic and charismatic persona that was larger than life. His magnetic personality coupled with his clever ingenuity (along with the saint-like patience of his wife, Marty) led to their successful 30-year run as owners of the Bamboo Bar. Jerry was constantly devising clever campaigns to keep the business interesting and fun. The annual boatsinker, winter volleyball tournaments, ice-golfing tournaments, and indoor beach parties are just a few of the notable events that Jerry brought to the area. One of his most time-tested contributions to local society included the invention of the Summer Hummer.

Jerry was known as the “resident expert” of Shawano Lake. Local news stations regularly tapped him to provide fishing reports and lake condition updates. His expert knowledge of the lake led to him being deputized by the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department from 1975-1990 to assist the department with emergency lake rescues. Marty and Jerry founded the Shawano Ski Sharks in 1976. The Shawano Ski Sharks celebrated their 40th anniversary in the summer of 2016. In 1975, Jerry was also one of several local business owners who started the Shawano Lake fireworks. Jerry was a founding member of the Shawano Ducks Unlimited and the Shawano County Snowmobile association. Jerry was a proud member of the Shawano Lake Lions Club for more than 25 years.

Jerry had an eccentric and wonderful sense of humor and could pull out some impressive tongue twisters upon request. Jerry would always greet everyone with a “Good Mornin’!” (even if it was the middle of the night) and a great big hug. Jerry’s heart was as big as his personality; he was always willing to help those who were down on their luck.

Jerry requested that his memorial service provide a setting for his friends and family to celebrate his life, rather than mourn his loss. A Celebration of Life party has been scheduled for July 8, 2017, at the Bamboo Bar, on the south shore of Shawano Lake, from 1-4 p.m. Please bring your best memories to share and ample room in your belly to toast this amazing man.
