Barbara J. Lund

The glow of the sunrise upon her, loving family in prayer around her, Barbara Jean Lund, 83, drew her last sweet breath and was embraced by God’s peaceful arms on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018.

She was born Barbara Jean Rogers on Feb. 13, 1935, in Cleveland, Tennessee, to John Mitchell Rogers and Ethel Cora (Whaley) Rogers.

She grew up in a primitive log cabin in the Smoky Mountains. Her childhood was spent in the hills picking black walnuts and berries, canning and laundry with her mamaw, tending to the animals with her papaw and singing hymns with her grandmother. Later, her life brought her to Illinois where she worked at Oleson Transportation and she met the love of her life, her soulmate Victor Lund. They married in 1964 and moved to make their homestead in Shawano. She was a devoted housewife and Victor’s right hand “lady” as owners of Lund’s Bar, where she treated customers to her wonderful cooking and Southern hospitality. She was a member of the Homemakers “Flour Queens” for 45 years, as well as Jerusalem Cemetery Association and Faith Circle. Her forever full-time job was her family. Always there for her children and grandchildren with a wise word or sweet subtle “invisible switch” across the tush.

We are incredibly blessed with all the writings we continue to stumble upon of direction, encouragement and life stories; always wanting and knowing what’s best for us through all our lives, even after she’s gone to her eternal home.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, James “Jimmy” Lemons, of Tennessee, Linda (Mike) Pasterski, of Shawano, Vicky (Don) Ebelt, of Neenah, Debbie (Greg Seymour) McCann, of Shawano, Dawn (Carl) Meulemans, of Appleton, and Kelly (Dave Druckrey) Lund of Shawano. She was a proud and honored grandmother to 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, plus one on the way. She is further survived by her sister, Johnnie (John) Gallman, of Fort Gaines, Georgia, and her brother Richard (Judy) Ownby, of LaGrange, Illinois. She is also survived by her dear friend, Eileen Elertson, who was always there for her.

Waiting to wrap her in their arms in heaven are her loving husband, Victor; two daughters, Nancy Mathison and Sally Lund; her son-in-law, Jeff McCann; and her grandson, Corey Marcus Victor Selle.

Funeral services for Barbara will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano with Vicar Lois Graper officiating. Burial will be in Jerusalem Cemetery in Lunds. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, from 4-8 p.m. and again on Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

We are forever grateful for the loving care given by the staff at Care Partners in Clintonville (Special thank you to Stacie, Trish and Emma); Miranda, Nicole and Anna at Shawano Health Services; Dr. Ben Schlais and Ann Papendorf at ThedaCare of Shawano; and Dr. Mindy Frimodig for your devoted care the last 13 years. A very special thank you to Greg Seymour, for his unending concern and support through this difficult time. Mostly, we would like to thank the staff of ThedaCare Hospice and Homecare for all you have done not only for Mom but for what you have done for us as a family. A special thank you to Kristy Crum for being there for us and being such a gifted nurse. Also a special thank you to Kathy Micoley for your very special visit and support. Ned Carl Fritz, 68, of Shawano, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018 at home. He was born Jan. 24, 1950, in Shawano to the late Lloyd “Bud” and Erma (Mueller) Fritz. Ned attended Bowler High School. On Aug. 16, 1969, he married Patricia “Pat” Schafberger at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Together they had two sons, Rodney and Jeffery.

Ned worked for 25 years at the Phenix Manufacturing Building until they closed their doors. He then worked in plant operations at Shawano Medical Center until his retirement in December 2013. Ned had many interests and hobbies, and there was not one special season of the year he did not enjoy. During the winter months, he enjoyed ice fishing. In November and December, he loved playing Santa and watching the children’s faces light up. In the spring, summer and fall, once again he could be found fishing, tending to his gardens, hunting or attending car shows with his 1930 and 1936 Street Rod. Fall was especially busy for Ned, one of his favorite hobbies was making sausage and jerky, smoking fish, venison hams and turkey. He was very proud to share his recipes and give instruction or advice to other enthusiasts.

Ned’s family and friends were very special to him and were always welcome. He usually had a new recipe or food to share when they stopped. You probably had to listen to him “brag” about the hunting skills of his grandchildren, Sam and Hatty. He was so proud that his two sons, two of his grandchildren and himself all shot their first buck on the Fritz land near Weasel Dam. He had each of their first buck heads mounted, no matter the size or number of points it had.

Goodnight Dad

By Richard John Scarr

Goodnight Dad. God keep you safe, until we meet again.

You have left a space no one can fill.

And loving hearts so full of pain.

Though you didn’t often say it.

We just took your love as read.

For we knew we were your very all.

You always showed what wasn’t said.

We never knew a day of want.

And you kept us safe in every way.

You nurtured and protected us,

and made us what we are today.

And now we have to come to terms

with the fact that you are gone.

Tomorrow will start without you.

And all tomorrows from now on.

Dad, we’ll really miss you.

Patrick J. Crawford

Patrick James Crawford, 92, of Shawano, gently passed away on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018, surrounded by his adoring children and cherished wife, Ruth, of 67 years. While bathed in the radiant light of God’s love from a magnificent sunset on the Wolf River, Ruth comforted him with kisses and affirmations of their love for one another. Shortly after Pat summoned the strength to kiss Ruth one last time and with the tender encouragement of his children and loving permission from Ruth, Pat transitioned peacefully from this life to his birthday in heaven.

Patrick was born on March 23, 1926, at a logging camp in Winter, Wisconsin, to the late Alfred and Violet (McKendry) Crawford. His father and grandfather ran a logging camp in the Clam Lake area and his mother was the camp cook. World War II was raging when Pat graduated from high school at 17 in 1943. He spent a year at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire until he could enlist in the U.S. Army Air Forces. With the war over a year and a half later and a painstaking deliberation not to pursue a career as a bomber pilot, Pat returned to Wisconsin as a student, again at UW-Eau Claire and then UW-Madison. It wasn’t long before he was back in northern Wisconsin working with this father when the crosscut saw and horse logging era was coming to an end. It was at this stage of his life that he met his loving wife, Ruth Paulick. They were married on June 30, 1951. After a honeymoon in Oregon, Pat worked logging jobs falling the huge timber in the Northwest but homesickness got the better of them and they returned to Hayward, Wisconsin, where they began their family.

In 1963, the family moved to Shawano, and Pat began working for Menominee Tribal Enterprises. He always felt gratitude to the Menominee Tribe for offering him a job in this wonderful community. It was Pat’s passion for logging and the forestry industry that led him to develop selective cutting equipment. His innovative mind was always at work as he looked for better ways to log and haul on the challenging conditions. These early endeavors with machine design and innovation became Timbco Hydraulics, and at age 55, Pat became known as the father of this state-of-the-art mechanized leveling track feller buncher. While Timbco Hydraulics grew to international levels, Pat became an icon in the forestry industry running his company based on simple virtues; honesty, integrity, compassion and generosity. He took great pride in his company and employees and all became the “Timbco family.” Due to its position in the market, Timbco was pursued, and ultimately purchased, by Partek Forest, of Finland. In 2002, at the age of 77, Pat started TimberPro Inc., which focused on wheeled (as opposed to track) forwarders and harvesters. For the second time in his career, Pat found himself at the helm of a major forestry equipment manufacturer with a global reputation. Pat never desired to retire and was still making regular office visits until last week. You would often hear Pat say, “I am the luckiest person on earth.”

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 67 years, Ruth; their children, Kenneth (Janet) Crawford, of Shawano, Cynthia (David) Jesse, of Shawano, Mary (Peter Rebman) Tree, of Green Bay, Mike (Tracy) Crawford, of Shawano, Patrick Lee (Merrie) Crawford, of Shawano, Katie (Mark) Schuh, of Appleton, Sam (Wendy) Crawford, of Shawano, and Liz (Wes) Fleming, of Whitefish Bay; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Patrick is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard; and two sisters, Margaret and Joanne.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano, as well as at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by Shawano American Legion Post 117.

Following the philanthropic nature of Pat and Ruth, the family is requesting memorials to be directed to the Ruth and Pat Crawford Family Foundation, which supports a variety of local charities.

We would like to extend many thanks to Heartland Hospice, especially Tina for her kind compassionate care. Also, a special thank you to the Crawford Care-giving Team led by Jenny Maltbey, for their devotion, which allowed our father, Pat, to remain in his home.

Many blessings!
