Henrietta J. Long

Henrietta Jean “Sis” Long, 68, of South Branch, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. She had battled ongoing health problems that she overcame miraculously within the past year. We were blessed to have her well and herself for the past few months, but ultimately she succumbed to the same dreaded sepsis that plagued her months ago. As a member of Keshena Assembly of God, living her faith was her greatest joy this past year.

Born onto Alex and Margaret Peters on June 30, 1950, in Keshena, Henrietta was raised true and true in South Branch, “Brancher All the Way!” Sis lived a very full life, a life she shared with her husband, Kenneth Wendell “Kenny Long,” whom she joined in marriage on May 14, 1986.

Many Menominee children were bused for many years by Sis when she worked for the Menominee Indian School District. She also cared deeply for our elders while employed by the Menominee CBRF. Community members had memorable rides with her on the Menominee Transit. She was also a dedicated employee of the United States Census Bureau, of which she “tried” to go to work recently. Sis was always on the go, in a hurry to get somewhere, whether it be working, playing bingo, slots, shanging, spending time with family and friends, cooking out, or cheering on the Packers, and she enjoyed her occasional scratch-off ticket. She was the grandest wreathmaker. Her wreaths had to be perfect and decorated just so. Sis made sure the Menominee Vets had their annual wreath for Veterans Day. Above all, Mom lived and loved her gardening and houseplants. She was such a blessing to many and will be sadly missed by all.

Sis is survived by her eight children, Gaynelle Margaret Peters, Alex J. (Alison) Peters Sr., Kathleen J. (Michael) Peters, Coleen Marie Peters, Kendell L. (Alvin) Long, Florence I. (Trina) Long, Bobbi Jo (Nito) Long and Frank (Leslie) Long; three sisters, Shirley “Donnie” (Stan) Peters, Debra McPherson and Ella Bruette; sister-in-law, Deborah Lyons; her loving and spoiled 29 grandchildren; and the newest members of the family, 16 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny Long; her parents, Alex and Margaret Peters; five brothers, Alex Peters, Orvis “Jim” Peters, Robert J. Peters, Arnold Peters and John Peters; seven sisters; Lucille Warrington, Edith Peters, Delores Pyatskowit, Margaret Sanapaw, Karen Peters, Ella Peters and Mabel Teller; one grandson, Justin Lee, whom she loved dearly.

Visitation began at her residence in South Branch at N6181 County Road AA, Suring, on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018, at 4 p.m. The funeral service will be held at her residence on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018 at 2 p.m. with Brother Nathan Enick Sr. officiating.

Jerry was a contractor/carpenter and Violet was the secretary for the family business. Violet also worked at Maple Lane as a receptionist, taught CCD at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and tutored at Lincoln School. Beyond her public service, she loved entertaining audiences in Shawano, Green Bay, Appleton, and around the state. On most weekends, you could find Vi and Jerry singing and playing to packed supper clubs. They shared a great chemistry and, between the two of them, created some of the area’s most fun and nostalgic moments. Polkas would be streaming from Jerry’s accordion and the songs flowed from Vi’s beautiful voice.

Violet went on many fun adventures with her daughter, Judy, and her family, from Germany to Hawaii and most of the United States. Violet enjoyed her family time. Her favorite place to reflect on her love for travel and her family was in the Wisconsin Dells. Since their honeymoon, the family had a tradition of going to the Dells every year to celebrate their anniversary. Violet loved life and loved all her many friends. She wanted everyone to live life to the fullest and asked that her message be shared with all of you.

To my family and friends,

Do not stand at my grave and weep,

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow;

I am the diamond glints on the snow,

I am the sunlight on ripened grain;

I am the gentle autumn’s rain.

When you awaken in the morning hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft star that shines at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry.

I am not there; I did not die.

Survivors include her children, Judy (Andrew) Walby, Molly (Jay) Martell and Greg (Cathy) Bennin; her grandchildren, Zachary (Mary) Walby, Tyler (fiancé Lydia) Walby, Travis Martell, Lance (Cheryl) Bennin and Bonita Ibarra; great-grandchildren, Robin, Andrea, Tasha, Monica, Kyle, Lyndsey, Landon and Broden; two great-great-grandchildren; and her close personal friend, Geni Galbraith.

I am home in heaven, dear ones;

Oh so happy and so bright!

There is perfect joy and beauty,

In this everlasting light!

All the pain and grief is over,

Every restless tossing passed;

I am now at peace forever

Safely home in heaven at last

You must not grieve so sorely,

For I love you all dearly still,

Try to look beyond earth’s shadows,

Pray to trust our Father’s will.

Gerald “Jerry” L. Diemel, 77, of Navarino passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018. He was born on March 29, to Lyle “Pappy” and Ida (Cable) Diemel. On July 3, 1965 he married Beverly Zuleger.

Jerry was a long-time resident of Navarino and could many times be seen cutting his grass or removing snow at his home on the corner. He will be remembered by his loved ones for his “goofy” sense of humor and how he would call things or people by anything but their proper name. He had a nickname for everyone he knew.

Jerry was a caregiver for his wife, Beverly, and spent long hours with her at the nursing home and taking “Grammie” for a ride to see the ducks, geese or Shawano Lake. You might also see him at the local gas station grabbing a “sodie pop.”

He enjoyed watching the Brewers, “Bucky Badger,” NASCAR races, and Barrett Jackson auction shows, and most of all his grandchildren’s sporting events as often as he could.

Jerry worked construction his whole life and was a member of the Laborers Local 330 for 51 years with the majority of that time with CR Meyer.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 117 and the 82nd Airborne Association. He took great pride in serving his country in the 82nd airborne division of the US Army, Fort Bragg North Carolina.

He will be deeply missed and is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beverly; four children, Susan Johnkins, Bill (Stacy) Diemel, Sarah (Dennis) Bohm and Brian (Stacy) Diemel; eight grandchildren, who he was very proud of, Sabrina, Jaden, Parker, Trevor, Elliott, Garrett, Connor and Carson. Further survived by his siblings: Donnie (Karen) Diemel, Jim (Carol) Diemel, Danny (Helen) Diemel, Patsy (Bruce) Nitzske, John Diemel, Dennis (Jean “George”) Diemel, Judy (Tom) Krull and Buck (Judy) Diemel; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and the Zuleger family.

Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, on Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, from 4 p.m. until the funeral service at 6 p.m. with military honors following the services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jerry’s memory to be distributed to his favorite causes.

James J. Koeppen, 70, Town of Lessor, peacefully passed away from a short illness on Aug. 4, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born on Oct. 5, 1947, in Shawano to John and Ida (Stern) Koeppen. He graduated from Bonduel High School in 1966, having laid claim to never opening his school books after being told he didn’t have to pass his classes, but rather, he just had to show up for school every day!

James worked for Outagamie Producer’s Co-Op in Black Creek washing dairy trucks. For a short stint, James worked security at the Bonduel Pickling Co, bragging that “no pickle was ever stolen on his watch.” He had been retired for roughly 30 years.

James resided his entire life at the family’s farm house in Bonduel, which was built by his grandparents in 1920. He was interested in automobiles and farm equipment and had a vast collection of diecast model cars and tractors. His family considered James a “professional armchair quarterback.” He enjoyed reading any NFL, college, or fantasy football magazines; he especially liked the NFL draft preview magazines and then sharing his “expertise” on player stats and season outlooks. James was also the Packers’ number one critic and loved to smack talk the team with his nephew, Ben.

James is survived by his longtime, loving companion of 35 years, Gloria Nelson, of Black Creek. He is also survived by special nephew and godson, Benjamin (Stacy) Smits. Other survivors included siblings, Flora Koeppen, Nancy (William) Smits, and John (Karen) Koeppen; nieces and nephews; Aaron (Erica) Smits, Karen (Todd) Ashland, Patricia Castel, Julie (Paul) Baranek and Amy (David) Lewis; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida; his oldest sister and her husband, Lois and Wallace Castel; and his fur babies, Whitey and Snow.

Per James’ request, there will be no services. The family would like to thank Unity Hospice for the care given to James. Simply Cremation assisted the family. Please visit www.simplycremationgb.com to share a memory.
