Donald R. Maskewit

Donald R. “Buddy” Maskewit, 84, of Keshena, started his journey to the Spirit World on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at Bellin Health Hospital in Green Bay with his family by his side.

Buddy was born on Feb. 24, 1933, in Keshena, a son of the late Mitchell and Mary (Beauprey) Maskewit. He was a proud Army veteran, serving his country as a paratrooper during the Korean War. He loved spending time with family and friends, being in the woods, fishing, hunting, camping, playing his guitar, guarding sturgeon and chasing his queens.

Buddy is survived by his five children, David (Linda) Maskewit, of Sarasota, Florida, Steven Maskewit, of Hickory, North Carolina, and Kathy (Robert) Potter, Robin Maskewit and Sandra Jesko, all of Shawano; his grandchildren, Brian David Maskewit, Michele Pocan, Tasha Caldwell and Sunday Dixon; many great-grandchildren; his siblings, Carl “Chummy” (Jan) Maskewit, Delores Maskewit, Laura Maskewit, Kathleen Maskewit and Dorothy Martin; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Fowler; his brother, Mitchell “Chappy” Maskewit Jr.; and two nephews, Carl Maskewit Jr. and Jacob Maskewit.

A traditional Native American service for Donald R. Maskewit will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, at noon at the top of the mountain at the dells at Great Smokey Falls. Relatives and friends can meet the family at 11 a.m. near the dells.

Mickelson Funeral & Cremation Service of Shawano is assisting the family with arrangements.
