Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Mann, 89, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2017, at Oak Haven Assisted Living Facility in Shawano.

Betty was born on May 16, 1927, in Milwaukee, a daughter of the late Arnold and Helen (Ploszay) Ebert. She was a 1948 graduate of the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a member of the Sigma Alpha Iota sorority. She taught music at the Wisconsin Music Conservatory and the Wisconsin College of Music, Madison. Betty also performed as a concert pianist, both as a soloist and with several orchestras.

On Aug. 21, 1948, Betty was united in marriage to John Paris Mann III. She and her husband retired to Shawano in 1987 from Worthington, Ohio. John preceded Betty in death in August 1994. Betty had a passion for botany and grew magnificent floral gardens. She also enjoyed bridge club and women’s club. She was an avid reader, classical pianist, tennis player and knitter. She loved knitting hats for the newborn babies at Shawano Medical Center.

Betty is survived by her loving children, John P. Mann IV, of Shawano, Gail E. (Chris) Morkemo, of Omro, Thomas A. (Cynthia) Mann, of Hilliard, Ohio, and Robert C. (Tracey) Mann, of Chaumont, France; her grandchildren, Eric Mann, Charlotte Mann, Dewey Hawthorne, Emma (Jory) Lawson and David Mann; and her great-grandchildren, Karter Hawthorne, Summer Hawthorne and Edward Diaz-Mann.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John; her brothers, John and Donald Ebert; and her sister, Doris Romanowicz.

Funeral services for Betty will take place on Monday, March 27, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at Mickelson Funeral & Cremation Service of Shawano. Jory Lawson will officiate. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Relatives and friends may call at Mickelson Funeral Service on Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.

The family requests memorials in Betty’s name to Alzheimer’s Association.
