Duwane C. Pieper, 91, of Shawano, passed away late Friday, July 12, 2019, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano, with her family by her side.

Duwane was born June 17, 1928, in the Town of Belle Plaine, the daughter of the late Walter and Ida (Kriewaldt) Mehlhorn. She attended country grade school through the eighth grade. On Jan. 29, 1949, she was married to Martin Pieper at St. Martin Lutheran Church. Throughout the years, she helped out on their farm, but nothing was more important than raising and taking care of their seven children.

Duwane was a longtime member of St. Jakobi Lutheran Church. She served for many years with the Ladies Aid and attended Bible study quite frequently. Over the years, you could always find Duwane playing cards with one of the many different groups she played with.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Gerald Pieper, Diane (James) Peterson, Donna (special friend Henry Hensel) Anker, James (special friend Joann Prey) Pieper, Darlene (David) Hoffman, Martin (Martha) Pieper Jr., and Richard (special friend Emma Knope) Pieper; grandchildren, Joseph, Jonathon and Jennifer Pieper, Jeffrey, Timothy and Jeremy Peterson, Cindy Cerveny, Caryn and Stephanie Hoffman, Melissa Golz, Michelle Gollubske and Matthew Pieper; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin; her grandson, Christopher Anker; great-granddaughter, Kierstan Anker; her daughter-in-law, Gloria Pieper; her stepfather, Louis Beyer; and her four brothers, Wallace, Elton, Arnold and Fredrick Mehlhorn.

Funeral services for Duwane C. Pieper will be held Friday, July 19, 2019, at 11 a.m. at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church, Town of Richmond. Pastor John Eyer will officiate. Burial will take place in the St. Jakobi Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church Friday beginning at 10 a.m. and continue until the time of service.

Mickelson Funeral and Cremation Service of Shawano is assisting the family with arrangements. Please share online condolences at www.mickelsonfs.com.

The family would like to thank Duwane’s caregivers at Kindred Hearts and the nurses with ThedaCare at Home Hospice for the loving care they provided to Duwane.
