Dorothy Jean Paterick

Dorothy Jean Paterick, 96, of Shawano, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019. Dorothy was born in Hickory Corners on Nov. 27, 1922, daughter of the late Robert and Clara (Torbergson) Dieck. In 1942, Dorothy was united in marriage to Norman Paterick in Gresham. Norman preceded Dorothy in death just five years later on Sept. 30, 1947. Dorothy earned a Master of Science in teaching from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She was the first female to earn a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She loved her job in teaching. She taught for 39 years before retiring, her teaching including time in Tigerton, Leopolis, and Shawano schools. Dorothy was a very active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano, where she held the offices of CCW president, school board member, and renew leader. She also gave her time to numerous other organizations throughout the community, including time as the Delta Kappa Gamma president, Shawano-Gresham Teachers president, Senior Songbirds president, Shawano Historical Society secretary, and served on the board of directors for the Friends of the Library. Throughout her life, Dorothy enjoyed golfing, bowling, flower gardening and collecting angels and teacups.

Dorothy is survived by two children, Diane Cooper, of Milwaukee, and Jim (Barb) Paterick, of Chippewa Falls; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Norman; sons, Mike Paterick and Tom Paterick; her parents; and seven siblings.

A memorial service for Dorothy will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. Tom Farrell officiating. Inurnment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids at a later date. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
