Lillie Mae Jones

Lillie Mae Jones, 94, formerly of Shawano, passed away Friday morning, Dec. 8, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Lillie was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Honey Grove, Texas, a daughter of the late Earl and Elvira (Burkett) Barnett. On June 10, 1953, she was united in marriage to Eugene L. Jones in Little River County, Arkansas. The couple moved to Shawano around 1954. Lillie was employed as a housekeeper at Evergreen Nursing Home in Shawano. She also owned and operated the Bargain Barn for several years.

Lillie is a longtime member of the River Valley Church in Shawano. She loved camping, sewing and going to rummage sales. She made dolls and exquisite fried chicken. Family meant everything to her.

Survivors include her son, William B. Nowell Sr., of Manitowoc; her grandchildren, Teresa (Tim) Dorsey, of Greenville, Valinda (Bill) Joachim, of Shawano, William (Char) Nowell Jr., of Palm Harbor, Florida, and Patty (Gary DeKeyser) Bohm, of Clintonville; 16 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Eva Wudtke, Shirley Timm and Sharon Anderson; many nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Barb Bettinger, who watched over Lillie like a guardian angel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, on July 9, 2009; and one granddaughter, Jennifer Nowell.

Funeral services for Lillie Mae Jones will be held on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at noon at the River Valley Church in Shawano. Pastor Dan Taylor will officiate. Interment will take place in Lake Drive Cemetery, Town of Wescott. Visitation will begin at the church at 10 a.m.
