Joyce was born in Chicago, where she met her husband, Paul. They had four children together and now have 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson. They moved to Wisconsin in the late 1970s to raise their family, finally settling in the Township of Hutchins.

Joyce became involved in the local community of Mattoon and became the head librarian. Joyce found her place in the library and in the hearts of the community as the face of the beloved institution for over 30 years. Joyce loved each person who walked through the doors of her library and shared their stories with her family.

Joyce was also active in the historical community, attending local re-enactment camps, rendezvous’ as often as she could. Many know her as “Nana Jo” from camp or “The Candle Lady.” She was often the topic of newspaper articles for her work in this capacity and captured many young hearts for the love of history.

While our hearts are saddened by this loss, we know that Joyce loved Jesus and she will be waiting for us in heaven.

A small, private family memorial will be held in honor of Joyce.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the institution that she loved, The Mattoon-Hutchins Community Library, P.O. Box 266, Mattoon, WI 54450-0266.
