Chester “Chet” Gueths left this earthly world on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017. Chet was born in the Town of Richmond, Shawano County, on the family farm of Arthur “Art” and Caroline “Lena” (Sommers) Gueths. He spent his early years on the farm and attended Forest School through the eighth grade. Chet joined the U.S. Air Force in 1948 and proudly served his country for 22 years, being stationed in many places around the states as well as Iceland, Vietnam and Japan. He retired in 1970 with the rank of chief master sergeant. Chet met his wife, Bertha “Tiss” while stationed in Texas at the Amarillo Air Force base. They were married in Raton, New Mexico, on May 26, 1954, and their union lasted for almost 60 years. After retirement, Chet moved his family to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and worked as a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years.
Chet was a man of devout faith and compassion, who loved all his family unconditionally — no matter how extended – and always made time for children especially. Chet loved to camp, hunt and fish when he could and could do most any project with his hands.
Chet was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha “Tiss,” son, Lt. (USAF) Robin Gueths, his Gueths brothers, Reinhold, Lawrence, August “Butch,” Carl “Chubby,” Alfred, Fred and sister Nora Engel.
He is survived by children Burma Lynne (Robert) Wood, Gill, Dan and Gwenn (Eric) Bolling; grandchildren, Will (Beth) Wood, Stuart (Deysi) Wood, Marty (Monica) Wood, Candice (Jang) Garcia, Kelly (Lee) Bolling-Ringler, Ashley Gueths, Lena Bolling and Erika Bolling; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Elfrieda (Marvin) Buettner and Betty (Sam) Cartwright; sisters-in-law Geraldine Gueths and Mary Gueths; cousins Gladys Stezenski, Shirley (Dan) Krueger and Delilah Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews that were as much to him as his own children.
