Lucille D. Schewe, 95, of Caroline, passed away early Wednesday morning, Aug. 9, 2017, at Atrium Post Acute Care at Birch Hill, Shawano.

The former Lucille Dorothy Wollin was born May 10, 1922, in the Town of Underhill to Edward & Laura (Bistoff) Wollin. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Underhill. Lucille grew up on the family farm and attended a one-room country school. For a couple of years during World War II, she lived and worked in Milwaukee at Cutler and Hammer. On July 7, 1943, she was united in marriage to Herbert Schewe in Shawano. After Herb was discharged from the Navy in 1945, they lived for a short time in Underhill on the farm where she grew up. Lucille and Herb later moved to Caroline, where they spent the remainder of their lives together. She later worked doing in-home child care and was a part-time postal clerk at the Caroline Post Office for many years. When she was able, Lucille liked to garden and bake. Most of all, she liked to take care of and be around her grandchildren when they were growing up. More recently, two great-grandchildren were added to the family, which gave her great joy whenever she would see them. Lucille was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the Town of Grant; she always loved to bake her lemon pies for the church’s bake sale during the fall Caroline Colorama.

Survivors include her two children, Judy Sousek, Leopolis, and Ron (Ruth) Schewe, Sherwood; two grandchildren, Tim Sousek and Scott (Mandy) Schewe; two great-grandchildren, Kendall and Brynn Schewe; and many nieces and nephews.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert, on April 2, 1998; a son, Randy, in infancy; grandchildren, Jeff Sousek and Sara Schewe; son-in-law, Warren Sousek; a sister, Mary (Ray) Braun; brothers, Harold (Marcy) Wollin, Norman (Mavis) Wollin, and Walter (Pearl) Wollin.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Town of Grant. with the Rev. Dean Suehring officiating. Interment will take place at Greenleaf Cemetery in Marion following the service.

Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

The family wishes to thank all of the nurses and staff at Birch Hill and ThedaCare At Home Hospice for the wonderful care mom received. Also, a special thank you to her neighbors in Caroline — Carl Grunewald, Shirley Klaeser, and Lois Klaeser for helping out and checking on her well-being while she was still able to live in her home.

The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Marion, is assisting her family.
