Roy R. Ziemer

Roy Robert Ziemer, 79, Suamico, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017. He was born on Oct. 17, 1937, in Shawano, the son of the late Fred and Lulubell (Marohl) Ziemer.

After graduation from Shawano High School, Roy enlisted in the U.S. Army. He spent three years on active duty, two of which were spent in Okinawa, Japan, and was honorably discharged. Roy attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering from which he graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Roy was an electrical engineer for Wisconsin Public Service Corporation for 34 years until his retirement in 2001.

On Oct. 24, 1970, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Beyer in Shawano. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, where he served as a greeter, usher and was on the counting team. Roy was an avid sportsman, participating on many softball and bowling teams over the years until he couldn’t run anymore. He also enjoyed golf, trap, camping and snowmobiling.

Roy was a charter member of the Howard-Suamico Lions Club, on the planning commission for the village of Howard and a member of Mensa. Roy loved to dance, usually clearing the dance floor with his swift moves. He loved to travel, with the grandest being his retirement celebration trip to Australia, and enjoyed cruising with the Bay Classic and Custom Car Club.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, Suamico; children, Dena (Scott) Klaus, Kenric (Kari) Ziemer and Jeffrey Scott from his previous marriage; four wonderful grandchildren, Tanner and Kennedy Klaus, Zoe and Eian Ziemer; brothers, Roger (Sue) Ziemer and Jim Ziemer; in-laws, Dave (Nancy) Beyer, Judy (Ralph) Laine and Bruce (Holly) Beyer; godchildren, Danny Ziemer, Mindy McGaha and Troy Beyer; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Elmer and Madeline Beyer; sister, Mary Ann Aschenbrenner; sister-in-law, Marsha “Sue” Ziemer; and brother-in-law, Dean Beyer.

Family and friends may call at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Howard-Suamico location, 1145 Cardinal Lane, on Friday, June 30, 2017, from 4-7 p.m. and on Saturday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1167 Kenwood St., Green Bay, from 10-11 a.m. Funeral service 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor John Parlow officiating.
