Elta A. Sievert (Kallies), 94, of Green Bay, found eternal peace on Friday, March 4, 2016, at Bornemann Nursing Home.

Elta was born on Jan. 28, 1922, to the late Ernest and Martha Kallies and raised on a farm near Zachow. She was the middle child of five, and the last survivor of the Kallies family siblings. As a child growing up on a farm, in a different period of time, Elta was accustomed to hard work. She spoke of the farm chores requiring manual labor, including plowing behind a team of horses. Through it all, Elta was able to finish eighth grade at the school down the road, which was a pretty big thing then.

Elta married Maynard Sievert on Sept. 14, 1941, at Zion Lutheran Church, Zachow. Elta and Maynard continued farming on his parents’ farm in the Zachow/Bonduel area, where her excellent cooking, baking, wildlife recipes, homemade pickles and flower gardening were born. They moved to Green Bay in 1946, with Maynard driving truck and Elta working at Dehn’s Ice Cream, located at Three Corners. She worked there 25 years, making many malts, Pecan Nests, Pig’s Dinners, and other Dehn’s favorites.

After retiring, Elta and Maynard resided near Lakewood, where she enjoyed watching the deer at the feeder, and also had no problem “shooing” bear from the yard. She continued living there after Maynard’s death in 2002.

Elta was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Townsend. In 2007, she suffered a severe heart attack, congestive heart failure, and was diagnosed with dementia, residing at Bornemann Nursing Home, Green Bay, since that time.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Barbara (Bosacki) Sievert, Green Bay; granddaughter, Kris Sievert, Phoenix, Arizona; grandson, Kurt Sievert, Los Angeles; great-grandson, Skyler; and great-stepgranddaughter, Rheya; sister-in-law, Elaine Sievert, Tomahawk; also nieces and nephews.

Elta was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Sievert, on April 24, 2002; her son, James Sievert, on Oct. 15, 2015; her parents, Ernest and Martha Kallies; father-in-law and mother- in-law, Elmer and Alice Sievert; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edwin (Gertrude) Kallies and Edward (Marie) Kallies; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred (Leonard) Bonnin and Velda (Ruben) Zingler; and brother-in-law, Marvin Sievert.

A private burial service was held, with Swedberg Funeral Home, Shawano, assisting. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery of Shawano.

A special thank you to the many people at Bornemann Nursing Home who helped Elta with her daily routine. All of the people who assisted Elta are special, and the family truly appreciates all you did for her.
