Robert G. Gipp

Robert G. Gipp, 84, Wittenberg, died on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at his home under the care of his family and Ministry Hospice. He was born on Feb. 21, 1932, in Suring, the son of the late Adolph and Helen (Schroeder) Gipp.

On Aug. 25, 1951, Robert was united in marriage to Phyllis Raddant at St. James Lutheran Church, Shawano. She survives.

Robert was a supervisor at Outboard Marine Corporation, Milwaukee, for many years until his retirement in 1983. The couple then moved to Shawano Lake for five years until building a house on their land in the town of Birnamwood, where they currently reside.

Robert formerly served on the Birnamwood Town Board, the Homme Home of Wittenberg board of directors and was instrumental in forming the annual Homme golf outing. He was very active and held many leadership roles in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, the Lutheran Church Extension Fund and Concordia University, Mequon.

Robert was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed making wood, hunting, fishing and operating a maple syrup business, tapping thousands of trees.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; three children, Glenn Gipp, Milwaukee, Cynthia (Paul) Lawonn, Brookfield, and Kathryn (Gregory) Jasinski, New Berlin; grandchildren, Daniel (Camille) Lawonn, Laura Lawonn, Dr. Andrew (Katie) Jasinski and Samantha Jasinski; and great-grandchildren, Anne and Lillian Jasinski, and Selby and Margot Lawonn.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Elder, Lorraine Shultz and Norman.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church, Eland. The Rev. Clifford Kessen will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg, and again on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
