Mary Ann Giese

Mary Ann Giese, 87, of the Town of Waukechon, passed away suddenly on Tuesday evening, April 23, 2019, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Appleton, where she had been a patient for one day.

Mary Ann was born May 29, 1931, in Oconto Falls, a daughter of the late Walter and Mae (Duffeck) Gudwer. She attended school at the Sunny Slope School in Swedetown, then Oconto Falls High School, where she graduated in 1948. Following school, Mary Ann worked at the Northern Shoe Factory in Pulaski. On Dec. 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to Albert J. Giese at Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls. Mary Ann had met Albert while he was working for her father at North Star Cheese Factory in Swedetown.

On Feb. 19, 1960, the couple bought the Lunds Cheese Factory which they operated until their retirement on Nov. 29, 1999. Mary Ann and Albert were founding members of the Lunds Snowbirds Snowmobiling Club. Albert preceded her in death on May 3, 2009. Mary Ann is a former member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Lunds. Rummage sales, flea markets, and auctions kept her busy in her spare time, earning her the nickname “Mary Ann-Tique”! She enjoyed listening to Willie Nelson, Kitty Wells, Marty Robbins and polkas.

Survivors include her sons, Allan (Dorothy) Giese, of the Town of Waukechon, Daniel Giese and Jonathan Giese, both of Lunds; six grandchildren, Daniel (Karina) Giese, of Clifton, Illinois, Kristy (Jason) Soper, of Gillett, Cathy (Chad) Reinard, of Dayton, Ohio, and Jaden, Evalynn, and Evette Giese, all of Lunds; six great-grandchildren, Christian, Lexi, Caitlyn, Kennedy, Connor and Riley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Genevieve Gudwer.

Funeral services for Mary Ann Giese will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Pastor Scott Ludford will officiate. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls. Visitation will begin at Mickelson Funeral Service on Monday, April 29, 2019, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and again on Tuesday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
