Guy Gerald Grignon Sr., 81, of Keshena, died peacefully at his home Tuesday, April 23, 2019. He was born in Keshena on Nov. 13, 1937, to the late Jerome and Sunday (Tourtillott) Grignon. He spent his entire life on the Menominee Reservation, growing up in Neopit with his many siblings and later settling in the Chickney Creek area among family and friends. His life was guided by his faith and devotion to the church. He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones and enjoyed hunting, fishing and many sports — either participating or watching. He excelled in sports during his youth and was a four-sport athlete at Shawano High School. He earned all-conference honors in basketball, football, track and baseball. He was a key figure in the 1956 State Basketball Championship. He was generous in sharing his knowledge with young athletes looking to improve their performance. He was especially kind, and you could count on him for a good story, quick wit and laughter. He retired from Menominee Tribal Enterprises in March 2017 after 54 years of service, primarily as a lumber truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta (Barnes) Grignon; his children, Jerry (BJ), Jackie and Derrick Grignon, all of Keshena, and Lois (Grignon) Peeters and Gerald Grignon, both of Kimberly; his grandchildren, Joshua and Clint Gauthier, Leshon and Khyla Grignon, Jacoby and Anahkosa Grignon, Domonic Caldwell, Angel, Jessey and Jeremiah Grignon, Christopher, David, Timothy, and Joshua Peeters and Marissa and Andrea Grignon; his siblings, Sharon Waupoose and Mary Claire, both of Neopit, and Robert (Arlene) Grignon, of De Pere; in-laws, Lauri Barnes and Mario Munoz, of Keshena, Kristy (Larry) Lindner, of Shawano, Antoinette (Ken) Bundick, of Oshkosh, and Ardith Barnes, of Shawano; numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors, other relatives, friends and special nephew/son Orman “Chief” Waukau.

He was preceded in death by his son, Guy Grignon Jr.; grandsons, Jedidiah and Dakota; siblings, James Grignon, Jerry Lee Grignon, Michelle Grignon, Carol Warrington, Stanley Grignon, Joan Waukau, Jerilyn Grignon, Dana Grignon Sr., Constance “Connie” Waupoose and Arlene Wimmer; mother- and father-in-law, Frank and Flora Munoz; in-laws, Gordon “Phillip” Waupoose, Irvin Waupoose Sr., Mary Pat Grignon and Marilyn Grignon.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2019, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena with the Rev. Dave Barrett officiating. Visitation will be held at St. Michael’s Parish Hall from 6 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019, until the time of services on Monday. A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019, at St. Michael’s Parish Hall.

The family of Guy extends a special thank you to nephews Buckle and Wendell, and nieces Pam “Hootsie” and Sharon for their help during this time.
