Angels came to take Irene Marie Mayer, 90, of Bonduel, to heaven on Good Friday, April 19, 2019. She passed away at her home with her family by her side. Irene was born in the Town of Washington on July 9, 1928, to the late Albert and Elsie (Rademann) Mueller. On Aug. 24, 1947, Irene was united in marriage to Clarence William Mayer at St. John’s Church in Cecil. Irene and Clarence farmed in the Town of Washington until 1974 when the couple moved to Bonduel. Irene worked as a cook for the Bonduel School District for 23 years, retiring in 2006. Clarence preceded Irene in death on Jan. 22, 2008. Irene was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in White Clay Lake, where she was active with the Ladies Aid and enjoyed attending Bible studies. She enjoyed bowling in her younger years, baking her special bars and watching the Brewers. Faith and family were by far the most important parts of her life, and she treasured watching her grandchildren participate in activities and sports.

Irene is survived by her daughters, Mary Lou (Brett Thompson) Mayer, of West Bend, and Deborah (special friend Leon Powell) Zernicke, of Cecil; three grandchildren, Rhea (Rick Taylor) Zernicke, Blake (Liz) Zernicke and Renee Zernicke; two great-grandchildren, Hallee and Brody; one brother, Elroy Mueller, of Shawano; one sister, Elaine Raguse, of Shawano; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Helen Boettcher, Midge and Duane Olson, Robert (special friend Diane) Mayer, David Mayer and Ron Webster. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; a sister, Loraine Miller; a brother, Carl Mueller; as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in White Clay Lake with the Rev. Steven Pockat officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Irene’s family would like to extend a special thank you to ThedaCare at Home Hospice, Pastor Steven Pockat and Kim Zastrow for all of their care and assistance.
