Jody W. Smith

Jody W. Smith, “The Pipemaker,” 63, of Antigo, passed away on April 21, 2016, in Birnamwood.

Jody was born on July 10, 1952, in Wausau, the son of Betty Lou (Wesco) Hafemann and the late Wilson Smith. After high school, he served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.

Jody was united in marriage to Colleen Lynn Briggs on Feb. 26, 1972, in Eland. She preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 2013. He worked as a police officer for Keshena, Shawano and Stockbridge, and enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting and wood carving.

Jody is survived by two daughters, Merina (Michael) Upson, of Marion, and Connie L. Brenneman, of Bowler; one son, Joseph T. Smith, of Shawano; eight grandchildren, Shane, Tabitha, Mathew-Thomas, Joseph, Jeromy, Savannah, Kyah and Faith; one great-granddaughter, Jazmine; his mother, Betty Lou Hafemann, of Wittenberg; and his fiancée, Trisha Sandberg. He is further survived by his siblings, John (Renee) Smith, of Wittenberg, Rita Kuik, of Marion, Tom (Stephanie) Briggs, of Merrill, Tim (Angie) Briggs, of Weston, and Terry (Karolyn) Briggs, of Antigo.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilson; his stepfather, Warren Hafemann; and two brothers, Wilson Jr. and Ralph.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. David Barrett officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Shawano AMVETS Post 10. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from noon until the time of the service.
