Walter LeRoy “Roy” Plamann was relieved of his long battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s on April 9, 2016, at the age of 85.

Walt was born in Nichols on May 21, 1930, to Walter F. Plamann and Mabel (Blink) Plamann. He graduated from Bonduel High School in 1948. After high school, he served two tours in the U.S. Navy, primarily as a firefighter; one in Corpus Christi, Texas, and the other aboard the USS Midway.

He married Janet (Wirth) of Antigo on June 14, 1958. Through their 40-year marriage, they raised three children: Susan (Randy) Palmbach, Winchester, Nancy (Chris) Harn, Freedom and Dan (Lisa) Plamann, Sturgeon Bay. He was also a proud grandpa to two grandchildren: Benjamin Palmbach (fianceé Billie Shafer), Neenah, and Olivia Harn, Freedom.

During his 40-year career with Kimberly-Clark, Walt was also active in several volunteer organizations. This included serving as assistant fire chief with the Clayton-Winchester Fire Department as well as being an active member of the Clayton Area Lions Club. Throughout his younger years, he was very active in sports. He played semi-pro baseball, lettered in track and boxing, and played football. His passion became golf, for which he earned many trophies. In his retirement years he became a supporter of the Neenah Rockets athletic teams. He was regularly seen in the bleachers until he was no longer able to attend. During this time he also took pride in being active with his church, St. Gabriel Parish.

Along with his children, daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law and grandchildren, Walt is survived by two brothers, Dennis (Joanne), Mequon, and Russell (Shirley), Seymour, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Otto (Nona) Wirth, Bass Lake; three spouses of brothers-in-law, Dorothy Wirth, Antigo, Delores Wirth-Meyer, Wausau, and Geri Wirth, Manitowoc; as well as many nieces and nephews.

After passing, he was greeted by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Keith, Gary and Merle; a sister, Audrey; two sisters-in-law, Patricia and Georgiana; three brothers-in-law, Donald Wirth, Richard Wirth and Robert Wirth; and nephew, Brian Wirth.

Walt’s family would sincerely like to thank the staff at St. Paul in Kaukauna, ThedaCare Hospice and especially Grand Horizons in Appleton. You helped him through his worst but still loved him like he was the best.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016, at St. Gabriel Parish, 900 Geiger St., Neenah, with the Rev. Larry Seidl officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2016, from 4-7 p.m. at Neenah’s Westgor Funeral Home, and again at church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of service.
