Vanice R. Buettner, 77, of Shawano, passed away peacefully Monday morning, Feb. 26, 2018 at her home.
Vanice was born Dec. 3, 1940 in Shawano to the late Vilas and Hildegard (Krueger) Rades. She attended school in Shawano, graduating from Shawano High School on May 23, 1959. Following school, she worked in the offices of the Outagamie County Courthouse. In July 1961, Vanice was united in marriage to Ernest Buettner at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. He preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1990. Vanice was employed at Badger Breeders and at Computer Systems, Inc., retiring in 2003.
She is a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. She loved to bowl, learning the sport at a young age at her parents’ business, Rades Bar and Bowl, on Main Street in Shawano. She enjoyed driving her convertible around Shawano Lake, camping at Pine Lake, “special adventures” with friends and family, and she was extremely proud of all her grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons, Steven (Kimberly) Buettner and Todd (Denise) Buettner, both of Shawano; her grandchildren, twins Jeff and Dana Buettner, and Jacob Buettner; her sister, Carmen (Ben) Raasch, brother-in-law, Dale Buettner, and sister-in-law, Barbara Rades, all of Shawano; many nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Carol Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; a son, Jeffrey; her brothers, Duane and Ron Rades; and her sister, Karen Rose.
Funeral services for Vanice R. Buettner will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Mark Baldwin will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will take place at the church from 9-11 a.m. on Friday. In lieu of flowers and plants memorials are preferred to Shawano County Meals on Wheels or to St. James Radio Broadcast.
