Dwight “Lee” O’Kimosh, “Na Guesta Weed” (Sitting Eagle), 55, of Green Bay, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016.
Lee was born on Oct. 27, 1960, in Keshena, the son of Leroy Stick and Audrey E. O’Kimosh. He was raised by the traditional and spiritual values of both the Menominee and Arikara Tribes and was proud to share and teach his culture. Lee was a master craftsman of Native American traditional art. He was the main artist who designed and constructed the Menominee Nation Eagle Staff.
Lee was a very talented bead worker, moccasin maker, porcupine quill worker, hide tanner, bustles and dancing sticks maker. He made native art work on behalf of the tribe for gifting distinguished guests, including international countries. Lee was also a champion fancy dancer and danced at the White House, the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., the Milwaukee Indian Community School and the Milwaukee Indian Health Board.
Lee also participated in the “March to Madison” with his grandparents, the O’Kimoshes in the 1970s. He enjoyed playing and watching most sports and was loved by his uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins, and will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
Lee is survived by his fiancée, Catherine Shawanomitta; three children, Ted Huff, of Green Bay, Konoka Stick, of Milwaukee, and Diana Blackhawk, of Madison; four stepchildren, Laurie Bautista, Miranda Bautista, Jeff Silas Jr., and Faye Silas, all of Green Bay. He is further survived by his grandchildren; his mother and father, Audrey and LeRoy; one brother, Melvin L. Stick; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Traditional services will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at the O’Kimosh residence, N334 Pine Meadows, Keshena, with Chief Dave “Nahwahquaw” Grignon performing traditional rites. Burial will be in the O’Kimosh Cemetery. Visitation will be located at the O’Kimosh residence from 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, until the time of the services on Friday.

Elmer E. Richter, 81, of Bonduel, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, in Shawano.
Elmer was born on Oct. 10, 1934, in the town of Lessor, the son of the late Elmer H. and Selma (Popp) Richter. He was united in marriage to Ruth Westerfield on Oct. 17, 1953, at St. John Lutheran Church in Pulcifer.
Elmer lived in the Bonduel area all his life. In his early years, he worked as a logger for his brother, before working at Fort Howard Paper Mill in Green Bay until his retirement.
Elmer was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel, and enjoyed fishing and hunting with his dogs.
Elmer is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth; three children, Daniel (Melody) Richter, of Wisconsin Dells, Keith (Peggy) Richter, of Shawano, and Pam (Greg) Rank, of Cecil; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; as well as one sister, Carol (Bob) Woldt, of Bonduel.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Earl and John.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel with the Rev. Mark Palmer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Milan A. Bernarde, 90, Wittenberg, died on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at Garden View CBRF, Menasha. He was born on April 6, 1925, in the town of Plover, the son of the late Frank and Adelia (Bergman) Bernarde.
On May 22, 1948, Milan was united in marriage to Alice Drews at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. She preceded him in death on Feb. 21, 2011.
Milan was a United States Army veteran and was honored to attend the Never Forgotten Honor Flight. The family farmed in the town of Wittenberg for many years, and Milan also worked as a mechanic. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching basketball and baseball. Milan enjoyed fishing, hunting, mowing lawn and driving his tractor.
Survivors include three children, Ronda (Richard) Schindhelm, Appleton, Terry Bernarde, Clintonville, and Susan Deruchowski, Weyauwega; four grandchildren, Sarah (Josh) Lucas, Ryan Schindhelm, Britney Deruchowski and Brady Deruchowski; and two great-granddaughters, Norah and Claire.
Milan was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son-in-law, Ted Deruchowski; four brothers, Harold, Raymond, Arnold and Robert; and three sisters, Doris Hoffman, Alice Matz and Marcella Hartleben.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. The Rev. Michael Larson will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg, and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Russell E. Nowak, 83, of Shawano, formerly of Milwaukee, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday morning, Feb. 8, 2016, in Shawano.
Russell was born on Nov. 6, 1932, in Milwaukee, son of the late Edward and Verna (Kaczmarek) Nowak. He attended the Milwaukee Boys Technical School in 1952. Following school, he was united in marriage to the former Violet M. Ford on Jan. 3, 1953, in Milwaukee, where they continued to live.
Russell was employed as a baker at the Wonder Bread Company for 10 years. He then worked for the Milwaukee County Transit System for nearly 30 years. Russell served in the National Guard for six years. He was an avid baseball fan and played softball in the church and city senior leagues. He had a love of woodworking and was an accomplished handyman.
Russell is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Violet; three children, Kathleen Ann Brzycki, of California, Russ C. Nowak, of Watertown, and Marguerite (Mark) Griesmer, of Shawano; two grandchildren, Jared Brzycki and Jayla Brzycki, both of California; his sister, Arlene Anderson, of Kewaunee; his brother, Roland Nowak, of Milwaukee; his special cousin, Robert (Rita) Nowak, of the south side of Milwaukee; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mary Elizabeth Mueller, 82, of Bonduel, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, in Milwaukee.
Mary was born on Sept. 25, 1933, in Green Bay, the daughter of the late Harry and Antoinette (Tilkens) Van Roy. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy and St. Norbert College.
Mary was united in marriage to Howard R. Mueller on June 25, 1960, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in De Pere. She worked as a medical technician in both the Shawano and Bonduel clinics and helped to organize the Volunteer Blood Bank. Mary was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Cecil and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved knitting and crocheting, but more than anything Mary loved spoiling her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband of 55 years, Howard; their children, Jeff, Peter (Beth) and Thomas (Laura); four grandchildren, Maxwell Mueller, Harrison Mueller, Rachael (Nathan) Orlando and Rebecca (Sean) McDonald; one great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn, and one great-grandson, Griffin. She is further survived by two sisters, Alyce (Ralph) Stahlberg and Kathleen Schneider; one sister-in-law, Corinne Anderson; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Mary Mueller.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Adam, her parents, and one sister, Bernadine Van Roy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Cecil with the Rev. Luke Ferris and Deacon Mike Grzeca officiating. Mr. Walter A. Kuranda, 96, of Cecil, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Walter was born on June 15, 1919, in Harvey, Illinois, to the late Casimier and Agnes (Antolak) Kuranda. On April 27, 1943, Walter married the love of his life, Bernice (Jenkins) Kuranda, in Stevens Point. Walter and Bernice resided in Wauconda, Illinois, until they retired and moved to Cecil in 1986.
Walter was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Gillett and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Wauconda.
Walter was an avid farmer, gardener, and made the most gorgeous woodwork projects you have ever seen. Walter loved spending time with his family, and sharing his life stories with anyone who would listen. Walter enjoyed dancing; he was so light on his feet that he just carried you away with him.
Walter built two houses from the ground up to raise his family in.
Walter is survived by his eight children and their spouses, Walt Kuranda, of Watertown, Rich (Betsy) Kuranda, of Black Creek, Janet (Mike) Laffoon, of Rockford, Illinois, Steve Kuranda, of Port Richey, Florida, Marilyn (Frank) Blatchford, of Poplar Grove, Illinois, Carol Daily, of South Barrington, Illinois, Betsy Malnati, of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, and Vicki Huffman, of Shawano. Walter is further survived by 27 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Christine Riesselmann, Agnes Zastrow, Angie Williams and Sophie (Harry) Pachniak; a brother-in-law, Joe (Judi) Jenkins; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Jenkins; a daughter-in-law, Carrie Kuranda, of Mukwonago; and his very special friend, Irene Dziak.
Walter was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bernice; three sons, Ted, Stan and Gary Kuranda. Walter was also preceded in death by three brothers, Frank (Helen), Bill (Frances) and Joe (Pat) Kuranda; a sister, Eva (Al) Bielen; four brothers-in-law, Clarence Jenkins, Riley Jenkins, Clifford Williams and George Riesselmann; and a sister-in-law, Viola (Chet) Haney.
Friends and relatives may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at the Kuehl Funeral Home, Gillett. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, from 12-12:45 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Gillett. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Yvonne “Sweet Pea” Perez began her crossing into eternity on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, after a tenacious and tireless battle with cancer.
Yvonne was born on Dec. 28, 1937, the daughter of the late Earl and Jane (Irving) Ermatinger. She was united in marriage to Benjamin “Buddy” Perez on Jan. 19, 1957. Benjamin preceded her in death in 2010. She enjoyed watching the Packers, loved spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and gardening.
Sweet Pea was pint-sized, but her heart and actions were enormous. Family was the most important thing to her and that was evident by the unconditional love and overwhelming support she had given to all her children.
Sweet Pea is survived by her children, Camilo (Jeanette) Perez, of Keshena, Renata (Alex) Maulson, of Keshena, Luana (Ramiro Molina) Perez, of Appleton, Mary Perez, of Keshena, Ben (Denise Nacotee) Perez, of Neopit, Scott Perez, of Keshena, Flora Moreno, of Keshena. She is further survived by 28 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; one sister, Vivian Ranta; and one brother, Bernard “barnyard” (Josie) Tourtillott.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin “Buddy” Perez; sons, Earl Perez and Dean “Dino” Perez; and her infant daughter, Lorna Perez; one sister, Tookson; her brother, Mervin “Tinger” Ermatinger; brother-in-law, Clarence “Stinky” Perez; and two sisters-in-law, Mona Fish and Gaynelle Maho.

Arline Hetzel (nee Knies), formerly of Wauwatosa, Pella and Waukesha, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at the age of 92 and has been reunited with her Lord and her beloved husband, Robert. She was born on Dec. 18, 1923, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Walter and Hilda Knies.
Arline and Robert Hetzel were united in marriage on Dec. 26, 1943, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Milwaukee, and spent 64 years together.
Arline worked in a glove factory during the war and later as a waitress at Gimbels “Tasty Town” and Paradise Gardens, and then various other jobs until retiring. Robert was a World War II veteran. He worked at Allis Chalmers and was a Shriner with the Tripoli Horse Patrol.
After raising their family in Wauwatosa and retiring, they went on to living their dream. They bought a home in the Shawano area with land for their animals, gardening, hunting, fishing and flying their airplane. She loved horses, dogs, all animals, and owned just about every animal at one time or another. She loved music as well as dancing, especially when it was with her husband.
Arline was so proud when they were involved with the Tripoli Horse Patrol, especially when Robert rode their horse, Honey, in Jimmy Carter’s inaugural parade. Another member rode their other horse, Chance. Robert also rode Chance as Buffalo Bill Cody in Milwaukee’s Fourth of July parade in 1971, 1972 and 1973, and many other parades.
Arline and Robert had fun playing gig in the Shawano County area for dances and private parties, Robert played the accordion and Arline sang. Polkas and waltzes were in high demand.
Arline is survived by her daughter, Nancy Hetzel; her sons, Jim and Jack; grandsons, Daniel (Danielle) Hetzel, Eric Brunette; granddaughter, MiNei (John Fitzgerald) Hetzel; great-grandchildren, Hailey Hetzel and Otis and Muriel Fitzgerald. She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Nancy Knies, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Arline was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Walter and Hilda Knies; Robert’s parents, Louis and Lydia Hetzel; sisters, Florence Geisler, Laverne Wagner and Violet Shrader; brother, Leroy Knies; brothers-in-laws, Ted Geisler, Joe Wagener, Fred Shrader and Harold Hetzel; and sister-in-law, Marcella Hetzel.
Arline was a sweet, caring, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. We all will truly miss her.

Ellen E. Mangan, 81, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 10, 2016, after a short illness.
Daughter of the late Ervin and Selma (Leder) Olson, Ellen was born on March 2, 1934, on their farm in the town of Angelica. After attending school in Frazer Corners, she moved to Appleton in 1951. She was employed at Zwicker Knitting Mills, where she met her future husband, Donald J. Mangan. They were married on May 31, 1952.
She is survived by her four children, Jacqueline (Joel) Devcich, of Bonduel, Gail (James) Garrow, of Appleton, Bryan Mangan, of Appleton, and Bruce Mangan (special friend Lynn Denton), of Appleton; grandchildren, Joshua Devcich, Alana and Andy Kluck and their daughter, Maddie, Neil and Melinda Mangan and their son, Riley, Blake and Mollie Devcich and their daughter, Kate, Cassandra Garrow and her fiancee, Justin Kennecke; and many nieces and nephews, who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; daughter-in-law, Donna Mangan; six brothers, Orville, Reed, Roger, Harley, Harvey and Oliver Olson; and two sisters, Sharon Meyer and Joyce McKeough.
Ellen was a hard worker all her life with many talents — and her greatest joy was working in her flower gardens and yard, which were admired by all. She loved to cook and bake and do whatever she could for her family. And if any event involved a good polka band, she was the first on the floor; her last wish was to dance one more time.
A memorial service for Ellen will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of service.

She was born on Aug. 17, 1931, in the town of Morris, Shawano County, the daughter of the late Peter and Alice (Eggleston) Erickson. On Nov. 6, 1948, Hazel was united in marriage to Donald Aggen in Birnamwood. He survives.
The couple farmed in the town of Morris for many years. Hazel worked as a store clerk for Gwidt Pharmacy, Wittenberg, for many years until her retirement. She was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Morris, where she sang in the church choir. She was currently a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wittenberg.
Hazel enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling and polkas. She also enjoyed golfing and once had a hole in one at Maple Hills Golf Course, Wittenberg.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Donald; six children, Philip (Marlene) Aggen, Germantown, David (Carol) Aggen, Wausau, Carolyn (Steve) Becker, Cincinnati, Ohio, Kenneth (Patti) Aggen, Pine Island, Minnesota, Kathryn (Ron) Whitehead, Chanhassen, Minnesota, and Barbara (Bob) Burrow, Camarillo, California; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion Murphy, Florida; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Davison.

Norbert F. Hein, 87, of Black Creek, passed away on Sunday morning, Feb. 14, 2016, at his home with his wife by his side. He was born on July 10, 1928, son of the late Fred and Bertha (Stregel) Hein. On July 2, 1947, he was united in marriage to Grace Koepke.
Norbert farmed until his retirement and always said farming was what he enjoyed the most. He also liked hunting, fishing and his family.
He was a member of Cicero Immanuel Lutheran Church since 1947.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Grace; a special cat, Soxie; and good friend, Wally Duhm; also nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerome (Lucille) Hein.

MJ McBride died on Feb. 13, 2016, in Shawano, after a brief battle with cancer.
MJ began life on Nov. 25, 1947. He was the son of the late Charles and Ramona (Krueger) McBride. He was a brother to Gwen (Charlie) Koeller, Lon (Julie) McBride, Kelly (Mike) Meidam, Charla (Tim) Martin and Terre (Ron) Retzlaff.
MJ attended Shawano schools and graduated in 1966. He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Zeman, on April 2, 1965, and so began their 51-year journey. From their loving union, their son Dean was born.
MJ had a long and successful racing career, spanning over 40 years, that took him and Marilyn to many tracks throughout the country. Along the way, their racing family grew to include many great friends. He owned and operated Brickform Concrete in Shawano before retiring in 2010.
After retiring, MJ and Marilyn wintered in Florida. Together, they enjoyed snowmobiling, boating and golfing. MJ also enjoyed hunting, and after retirement, took up archery.
MJ is survived by his wife, Marilyn; their son, Dean, and his family, Jolie and Madison; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty and Jim Rouse, and Vicky and Jeff Jones. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Gwen; one brother, Lon; one niece, Timijane; as well as his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ernie and Millie Zeman.
MJ’s celebration of life will take place on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. at Hope Community Church in Shawano with the Rev. Kevin Bradford officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family for a memorial of its choice.

Albert “Al” Henry Popp, 69, of Shawano, passed away on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, in Appleton.
Al was born on Sept. 29, 1946, in Shawano, the son of the late Walter A. and Sybil (Moesch) Popp. He was united in marriage to Jacquelyn “Jacky” Tinsman on April 23, 1966, in Shawano.
Al had a good sense of humor and always loved meeting new people. He was a history buff, often reading about both World War II and the Korean War.
Al enjoyed musky fishing and loved his dogs, Charlie, Peggy, and Gracie. He was a wonderful husband and father and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Al is survived by his wife, Jacky; one son, Wade (Jenny) Popp; and one granddaughter, Bethany. He is further survived by his two brothers, Marvin (Judi) Popp and Howard (Shirley) Popp, and one sister, Karen (Steve) Van Ryzin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gerald Moesch.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Cecil with the Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials may be directed to the Shawano County Humane Society.

David E. Le May, 78, of Shawano, died on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016.
David was born on Aug. 5, 1937, in Worcestor, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late Wilfred and Irene (Picard) Le May.
David served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-1961 and was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena.
David is survived by his children, Michele (DeWayne Taylor), Mark (Catherine), Steven and Michael; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maryann Roach and Virginia Reidy, one brother, Michael Le May; and several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Dee Dee Le May.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Dave Barrett officiating. Military Rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation and the Keshena American Legion Post 497. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in spring.

Roger W. “Buck” Hoffman, formerly of Gresham, passed away on Feb. 16, 2016, at the age of 77.

Therese P. Mannino, 91, of Shawano, formerly of Chicago, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, Feb. 15, 2016, in Shawano.
Therese was born on June 30, 1924 in Chicago, a daughter of the late Biasi and Catherine (Varallo) Miraglia. She attended school in Chicago, graduating from Austin High School. Following high school, she went to work at Marshall Field’s department store. She married John Mannino in Chicago, where the couple lived until 1993 when they moved to Round Lake Beach, Illinois. Her husband preceded her in death in 1999. Shortly thereafter, Therese moved to the town of Wescott.
While living in Shawano, Therese attended St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Cecil. She loved cooking, gardening and knitting, as well as the occasional trip to the casino.
Therese spent many years caring for her son, John “Jack” Mannino. She was an avid Chicago Bears fan.
Therese is survived by her children, Jack Mannino, of Shawano, Cathy Sickle, of Appleton, and Jim Mannino, of the town of Wescott; two grandchildren, Jordan Sickle, of Gurnee, Illinois, and William Sickle, of Milwaukee.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ferdinand and Frank Miraglia.
A funeral service for Therese Mannino will be held on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. at Mickelson Funeral Service. The Rev. Luke Ferris, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano, will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at Mickelson Funeral Service on Thursday from noon until the hour of service. Interment will take place at the Lake Drive Cemetery.
